Meet Mario R. Espiñeira Jr. of Deco Truss Company in Homestead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario R. Espiñeira Jr.

Mario, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.

Deco Truss Company Inc., was started by Mario R. Espineira Sr., my father in 1983. As a young child, I (Mario Jr) spent summers working at the company. During High High School, I would work after School at the Company and During The Summer as well. During college, I worked full Time at Deco Truss, while attending college at the same time.

In 1997, we decided to expand the company from just Engineering and Manufacturing Pre-fabricated Wood Trusses to selling complete building materials (Lumber, Rebar, Hardware, Doors etc..).

In 2002, we move to our current location, which is around the block from where we started. Demand had grown so much, Domestically & Internationally, that Deco Truss Started in a 1/2 acre location and eventually in 2022 had to move to its current location which is 8-1/2 acres.

Our focus has always been on Service, which is why we have been able to be in business for over 34 years and have continued to grow.

Has it been a smooth road?

Our business, is governed primarily by the economy. In the early 90’s construction was slow, during the 1st Gulf War, Then came Hurricane Andrew in 1992. South Florida was devastated and construction boomed. When the 2008 recession hit the USA, we did not feel it till about 2010, because we had so much export work on the books, that we were able to ride out the recession, better than most. Of course, eventually, we did feel the slowdown, but by staying focused on always Serving our Clients and not just selling a product not only were we able to get through the recession, but come out even bigger.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?

While many think we are located in Homestead we are actually not. We are actually located in unincorporated Miami Dade County, but we have the best of both worlds.

Being so close to Homestead and The Redlands we have that small hometown feeling, were everyone knows everyone. But yet we are also close to Miami. Our location also offers us the availability of less city traffic. From our location, we can serve The Florida Keys Daily and Miami-Dade & Broward as well.

Miami is a great City, we are the melting pot of The USA. Plus Miami is a great city for us, because of our international sales. Since we export a lot of Trusses and Building Materials, we are close to both The Port of Miami and Port Everglades.
