What is The #1 Thing To Consider; When Adding Trusses To Existing Roof
Deco Truss® – Existing Information – Cheat Sheet
The #1 Question a Truss Company should ask you when doing an addition to an existing roof, is for you to verify the existing conditions. I have personally seen too many truss jobs be re-done, because the Truss Company did not ask for the existing to be verified. At Deco Truss® we always request that the existing roof be verified prior to commencing Preliminary Plans (See Attached Cheat Sheet).
What should be verified?
- Existing Condition – Is It A Framed Roof “Hand-Cut” or A Pre-fabricated Truss Roof
- Pitch
- Overhang or Cantilever & Size
- Fascial –Plum or Square and Size
- Existing Tie Beam Elevation
These are things that The Architect of Record cannot verify when doing the plans, because it may require cutting into existing roof.
Always Measure twice and Cut once and remember the person paying for the trusses should be the one verifying this information. Never rely on someone else, when it’s your money.
